Abstract
This review explores the effectiveness of music therapy and Auditory-Verbal Therapy (AVT) as interventions focused on developing of auditory skills in children and adolescents with cochlear implants (CI). A specialized search was carried out on five databases following the PRISMA method for documentation. As a result, the evidence shows that interventions with music and AVT can improve aspects of language such as speech perception, preverbal skill development, expressive and receptive vocabulary, prosodic and social skills. In conclusion, both interventions have positive effects on language; music therapy or those using music mainly favor the phonetic-phonological, semantic, and pragmatic components, and AVT has benefits in all components. Further research is needed to overcome the methodological limitations of the number and control group since the evidence suggests that both approaches could be applied in an interdisciplinary way.
